Аннотация: 3-(4,5-Dimethoxy-2-nitrophenyl)coumarins bearing various substituents on the benzene ring of the coumarin system have been prepared from salicylaldehydes and 2-(4,5-dimethoxy-2-nitrophenyl)acetonitrile by means of the Perkin condensation. Further cyclization of these 3-aryl coumarins through the microwave-assisted Cadogan reaction afforded the corresponding indolo[3,2-c]coumarins in good to excellent yields

Аннотация: A series of new 5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]carbazole derivatives, containing functional thiophene, 2,2′-bithiophene or 2,2′:5′,2″-terthiophene moieties at both C-2 and C-8 positions of their fused scaffolds, have been obtained from 2,8-diacetyl-substituted 5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]carbazole compounds through the effective strategy, which is based on the sequence of two reactions, namely the Vilsmeier–Haack formylation and the Fiesselmann thiophene synthesis. The starting acetyl substituted materials have been transformed into the corresponding 3-chlorocrylaldehyde-containing compounds by treatment with POCl3-DMF complex, followed by the reaction with alkyl thioglycolates or α-mercaptoacetone in the presence of triethylamine to afford 2-carboalkoxythiophene- or 2-acetylthiophene-linked derivatives. 2-Acetylthiophene derivatives have further been involved into the same sequence of reactions to obtain 2,2′-bithiophene-, and 2,2′:5′,2″-terthiophene-linked 5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]carbazole compounds.

Аннотация: Two novel dyes IK-1,2 bearing the 8-alkyl-8H-thieno[2,3-b]indole unit as an electron-donating part of the push-pull system have been designed and prepared, as promising sensitizers for solar cells. The key steps of the synthesis involve the crotonic condensation of 1-alkylisatins with 2-acetylthiophene, followed by reduction of the C=C double bond and further cyclization through the Paal-Knorr reaction with the Lawesson reagent, thus leading to the formation of 2-(thien-2-yl) substituted thieno[2,3-b] indole derivatives. The optical and electrochemical properties of these dye's have been investigated by using spectrophotometry and cyclic voltammetry respectively, while their photovoltaic performance was evaluated by a device fabricatien study. The DSSCs based on IK-1 and IK-2 have demonstrated an efficiency of eta = 0.37% (FF = 73%) and eta = 0.7g% (FF = 69%) under 100 mW cm(-2) simulated AM 1.5G solar irradiation, respectively.

Аннотация: A short and robust approach for the synthesis of 2-(hetero)aryl substituted thieno[2,3-b]indoles from easily available 1-alkylisatins and acetylated (hetero)arenes has been advanced. The two-step procedure includes the "aldol-crotonic" type of condensation of the starting materials, followed by treatment of the intermediate 3-(2-oxo-2-(hetero)arylethylidene) indolin-2-ones with Lawesson's reagent. The latter process involves two sequential reactions, namely reduction of the C=C ethylidene double bond of the intermediate indolin-2-ones followed by the Paal-Knorr cyclization, thus affording tricyclic thieno[2,3-b]indoles.

Аннотация: A series of new polycyclic compounds bearing the 5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b] carbazole ring system, as the common motif of their nine-ring scaffolds, has been successfully prepared with the usage of an efficient two-step strategy, based on the double Friedel-Crafts acylation of 5,11-dihexyl-6,12-di(hetero) aryl-substituted 5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b] carbazoles with 2-iodobenzoyl chloride in the presence of SnCl4, followed by regioselective palladium-catalyzed cyclization of the obtained 2,8-bis(2-iodobenzoyl) derivatives into the desired fused 9H-fluoren-9-ones. Some modifications of these nine-ring structures have been performed to afford compounds of the same family bearing the 9H-fluorene fragments. Basic photophysical and electrochemical properties as well as thermal stability of the new fused indolo[3,2-b] carbazole derivatives have been determined.

Аннотация: A series of 6H-benzofuro[2′,3′:4,5]thieno[3,2-b]indoles were readily synthesized from methyl 3-aminothieno[3,2-b]benzofuran-2-carboxylates using a one-pot procedure with Fischer indolization as the key step. At the same time, 3-aminothieno[3,2-b]benzofuran-2-carboxylates were prepared from 3-chlorobenzofuran-2-carbaldehydes in three steps, including replacement of the Cl atom at the C-3 position of these starting substrates onto the -SCH2CO2Me moiety, conversion of the CHO group at the C-2 position into the CN group, followed by base-promoted cyclization of the formed carbonitrile. The present route was elaborated by us because we failed to obtain directly the desired 3-aminothiophene-2-carboxylate by reaction of 3-chlorobenzofuran-2-carbonitrile with methyl thioglycolate in the presence of various bases. In turn, 3-chlorobenzofuran-2-carbaldehydes were prepared from benzofuran-3(2H)-ones following the Vilsmeier–Haack–Arnold reaction.

Аннотация: A series of 12H-[1]benzo[4′′,5′′]thieno[2′′,3′′:4′,5′]thieno[2′,3′:4,5]thieno[3,2-b]indoles were efficiently prepared in three steps starting from available benzo[b]thieno[2,3-d]thiophen-3(2H)-ones. These fused ketones were treated with the Vilsmeier reagent and hydroxylamine hydrochloride to give the corresponding 3-chlorobenzo[b]thieno[2,3-d]thiophene-2-carbonitriles, which then reacted with methyl sulfanylacetate to form methyl 3-aminobenzo[4′,5′]thieno[2′,3′:4,5]thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2-carboxylates, in accordance with the Fiesselmann thiophene synthesis protocol. Finally, the desired N,S-heterohexacenes were obtained by conversion of these fused 3-aminothiophene-2-carboxylates into the corresponding 3-aminothiophene intermediates, which acted as synthetic equivalents of thiophen-3(2H)-ones, followed by their acid-promoted reaction with arylhydrazines, in accordance with the Fischer indolization procedure.
