Аннотация: The efficiencies of hydrogen peroxide derivatives in the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of cyclopen­tanone to δ-valerolactone have been compared. The oxidants used were hydrogen peroxide in acetic, formic, or trifluoroacetic acid, magnesium and sodium monoperoxyphthalates, cumene hydroperoxide, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide. The oxidation was carried out in water, aqueous methanol, and water–ethyl acetate. Sodium and magnesium monoperoxyphthalates turned out to provide high conversion and selectivity under mild conditions.

Аннотация: Protolytic and complexing properties of N-[1,1-bis(hydroxymethyl)ethyl]- and N-[tris-(hydroxymethyl)methyl]-β-alanine were estimated using the potentiometry. Values of the dissociation constants of amino and carboxyl functional groups in molecules of these reagents, as well as the stability constants of their complexes of various compositions with copper(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II), silver(I), magnesium(II), calcium(II), strontium(II), and barium(II) ions, were calculated. The hydroxyalkylation of β-alanine tunes its properties towards the considered metal ions. Complexes of copper(II) ions with these β-alanine derivatives are the most stable complex compounds among explored herein.

Аннотация: Copper(II) complexes with 1,1,1-trifluoro-4-(4-methoxyphenyl)butan-2,4-dione (HL1) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The biological properties of HL1 and cis-[Cu(L1)2(DMSO)] (3) were examined against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and opportunistic unicellular fungi. The cytotoxicity was estimated towards the HeLa and Vero cell lines. Complex 3 demonstrated antibacterial activity towards S. aureus comparable to that of streptomycin, lower antifungal activity than the ligand HL1 and moderate cytotoxicity. The bioactivity was compared with the activity of compounds of similar structures. The effect of changing the position of the methoxy group at the aromatic ring in the ligand moiety of the complexes on their antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity was explored. We propose that complex 3 has lower bioavailability and reduced bioactivity than expected due to strong intermolecular contacts. In addition, molecular docking studies provided theoretical information on the interactions of tested compounds with ribonucleotide reductase subunit R2, as well as the chaperones Hsp70 and Hsp90, which are important biomolecular targets for antitumor and antimicrobial drug search and design. The obtained results revealed that the complexes displayed enhanced affinity over organic ligands. Taken together, the copper(II) complexes with the trifluoromethyl methoxyphenyl-substituted β-diketones could be considered as promising anticancer agents with antibacterial properties

Аннотация: The grafting of silane groups on clay surfaces has been recently investigated in order to fabricate versatile compounds with new potential applications in materials science and ecological engineering. This work explored the influence of variety of solvents with variable polarity on the silanization of halloysite nanoclay (HNT) surface by (3-Glycidyloxy propyl) trimethoxy silane. To this purpose, the functionalization of HNT by 3-Glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GOPTMS) has been conducted in Ethanol (polar protic solvent), Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Acetonitrile (polar aprotic solvents), and Hexane, 1,4-Dioxane and Toluene (non polar solvents). The silane grafted materials were characterized by using several techniques, including Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), elemental analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetry (TGA), X-ray Diffraction Analysis (XRD) and Nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The largest silane loading has been detected for the hybrid nanomaterials prepared in Hexane as a dispersing medium.

Аннотация: Dependencies for the sorption of palladium(II), gold(III), and platinum(IV) chloro complexes from individual and binary solutions with sorbents based on sulfoethylated polyallylamine and poly(aminostyrene) have been obtained. It has been found that predominant sorption mechanism is complexation with functional groups of the sorbents for gold(III) and palladium(II) and ion exchange for platinum(IV). It has been shown that increase in the sulfoethylation degree of aminopolymer matrix leads to decrease of platinum(IV) sorption and therefore, to increase in palladium(II) sorption selectivity relative to this ion. This effect is the largest for the sorbents based on polyallylamine. The conditions of quantitative desorption of the studied metals from sorbent surface have been determined. The sorption of gold(III) by the sorbent based on polyallylamine has been shown to be complicated by gold(III) reduction in sorbent phase.
