Аннотация: One of the problems of our time is the environmentally safe destruction of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and their hydroxylated derivatives. The aim of the study was to investigate the features and prospects of the decomposition of PCB 70 (2,5,3',4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl) and hydroxylated chlorobiphenyls derived from it by Rhodococcus wratislaviensis strain CH628. As a result of the application of methods of periodic cultivation, gas chromatography and light spectrometry, it was found that the efficiency of destruction of PCB 70 1 g of cells of strain CH628 was 90 mg PCB/day, and the same indicator for a mixture consisting of hydroxy derivatives obtained from PCB 70 was 56 mg PCB/day. It was shown that the strain uses all components of the mixture of hydroxy-PCB 70 as a growth substrate, but with different degradation rates. When cultivated in a mineral medium with PCB 70 or a mixture of hydroxy-PCB 70, strain CH628 forms biofilms. The analysis of the obtained results shows that the use of the Rhodococcus wratislaviensis CH628 strain will make it possible to develop a technology for the environmentally safe destruction of PCB 70 and hydroxy-PCBs derived from it.

A green protocol has been developed for the synthesis of simple coumarins and linear pyrano[2,3-f] and [3,2-f]indoles by the reaction of phenol derivatives with β-ketoesters under ball milling at ambient temperature in the presence of methanesulfonic acid as a mild acid catalyst. The significant advantages of this procedure are high yields, scalability, no use of hazardous acids or solvents, shorter reaction time, ambient temperature, low cost, and straightforward purification without column chromatography. This procedure is associated with high EcoScale metrics and a low E-factor. In contrast to traditional Pechmann condensation procedures, the mechanochemical protocol leads to the synthesis of pyranoindoles with excellent regioselectivity and high yields.

Аннотация: The suspension polymerization in octafluorobutane, initiated by Ziegler–Natta catalyst system, has been used to synthesize ultra-high molecular weight poly(1-hexene), poly(1-octene), and poly(1-decene) of regular structure with high yields. This technique makes it possible to successfully carry out reactions at close to room temperature, followed by easy isolation of polymer products. The regularity of the structure of the synthesized polymers was proved based on the data of 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Using gel permeation chromatography, data on the molecular weight distribution of polymer molecules were obtained. They indicated that the weighted average mass of the synthesized polymers is many times higher than the mass of polyolefins produced by the classical technique of homogeneous polymerization.

Аннотация: Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), also known by the trade name Sovol, are toxic industrial wastes. They have been subjected to chemical treatment by polyethylene glycols (PEGs) and potassium hydroxide. As a result of the interaction of the Sovol with various molecular mass PEGs (MMPEG-4 ∼ 200, MMPEG-22 ∼ 1000), water-soluble mixtures M1 and M2 containing mono(polyethylene glycol)oxy-derivatives (PCB-PEG-4 and PCB-PEG-22), polychlorobiphenylols, and unreacted PCB congeners (PCB 44, PCB 47, PCB 49, PCB 52, and PCB 66) were obtained. It was shown for the first time that mixtures M1 and M2 are susceptible to bacterial degradation without their fractionation. According to the gas-liquid chromatography with flame-ionization and mass-spectrometric detection, the Rhodococcus wratislaviensis KT112-7 strain degraded all of the chemical compounds occurring in the mixtures. In a 5-day experiment, it was found that the KT112-7 strain decomposes mono(polyethylene glycol)oxy-derivatives completely (by 100%) and polychlorobiphenylols and PCB congeners by 90–95% in the M1 and M2 mixtures. The culture medium did not contain transformation products, whereas free chlorine ions were accumulated (72–94% of the maximum possible amount). Thus, the use of the chemical modification and consecutive bacterial degradation provided an effective destruction of technical PCB mixtures with a high content of highly chlorinated congeners

Аннотация: 5-Bromopyrimidine reacts with 2,2′-bithiophene, [2,2′:5′,2″]terthiophene and 2-phenylthiophene in the presence of a palladium catalyst to give 5-(het)aryl substituted pyrimidines due to the palladium-catalyzed aryl–aryl C–C coupling. However 5-bromo-4-(het)aryl-pyrimidines have been prepared from the same starting materials through the SNH-reaction catalyzed by a Lewis acid. Conditions for both types of reactions were optimized.
