Аннотация: Crystallization of supercooled liquid sodium containing a spheroidal bce nucleus was studied by molecular dynamics simulations. The degree of supercooling and the critical nucleus size are determined. After solidification, the system exhibits elasticity of shear. Nucleus growth is accompanied by self-sustained aperiodic temperature oscillations. The radial distribution function is computed and Voronoi polyhedra are constructed for the system immediately before and after the transition. It is shown by the projection method that the crystallized system contains structural defects and Features a long-range order

Аннотация: A theory of the spontaneous boiling-up of supersaturated liquid solutions, which allows for all major factors limiting growth of a nucleus, such as volatility of solution components, viscous and inertial forces, and diffusional supply of a substance to the bubble, is proposed. Two approaches to determining the work of critical nucleus formation, based on the Gibbs method of diving surfaces and the Van der Waals theory of capillarity, are reviewed. Experimental data on the kinetics of boiling-up of nitrogen-helium and oxygen-helium solutions are presented. The results of the experiments are compared to the theoretical approaches to the problem of nucleation in gassed liquids, developed by the authors

Аннотация: Low-temperature condensates of water and water-methane mixture are studied in the temperature range of 65-200 K. Amorphous samples are obtained by molecular beam deposition under vacuum conditions on the substrate cooled with liquid nitrogen. The vitrification and crystallization temperatures are determined from the changes in the dielectric properties of the condensates upon heating. The kinetics of crystallization of amorphous water layers is studied by differential thermal analysis. The temperature conditions for the growth of thick methane crystalline hydrate layers during the low-temperature condensation of molecular water-gas mixture beams are found

Аннотация: The kinetics of spontaneous boiling-up of superheated binary solutions of cryogenic liquids is studied. Within the framework of the Kramers-Zeldovich method, an expression is obtained for the steady state rate of homogeneous nucleation in a solution that takes into account free-molecular and diffusion regimes of the substance supply to a growing bubble. Viscous and inertial forces are also taken into account in the study of the nucleus growth dynamics. The work of critical nucleus formation is determined within the framework of the Gibbs and van der Waals capillarity theories. The dependence of the surface tension of critical bubbles in the solution on their size is investigated. The temperature of attainable superheating and nucleation rates in superheated solutions of cryogenic liquids with complete or partial solubility of the components are determined by a method of lifetime measurement. The experiments were conducted in a wide range of pressures and solution concentrations. The measurement results are compared with the theory of homogeneous nucleation taking or not taking into account the size effect in nucleation. It has been found that, by taking into account the size dependence of the surface tension of a nucleus, better agreement between the theory and experiment is obtained. The boundary of essential instability of the solution, that is, the diffusion spinodal, is computed

Аннотация: A comparative analysis of the results of determination of the work of critical cluster formation in nucleation theory for three different methods of evaluationGibbs' method (employing the capillarity approximation), the van der Waals−Cahn and Hilliard method, and a newly developed modified Gibbs approachis given. As a particular application, the processes of condensation and boiling in one-component fluids are analyzed. As a model system for comparison, van der Waals fluids are chosen. In addition to the work of critical cluster formation, the bulk properties of the critical clusters (drops or bubbles), their characteristic sizes, and the values of the surface tension are determined in dependence on the initial supersaturation in the system or, equivalently, on the size of the critical clusters. It is shown that latter two mentioned methods of determination of the work of critical cluster formation (the van der Waals−Cahn & Hilliard and the modified Gibbs approach) leadat least for the model system consideredto qualitatively and partly quantitatively equivalent results. Nevertheless, differences remain which may lead to quantitative deviations when applied to the determination of the steady-state nucleation rates and further basic characteristics of nucleation-growth processes. The possible origin of such deviations is discussed, and some further directions of analysis are anticipated

Аннотация: The procedure of calculation of the dynamics of rapid near-wall vaporization near a metallic heater is considered. A physical model of explosive boiling-up on bubbles of fluctuation origin is used. The model is limited to regimes when the motion of bubbles can be ignored and convective flows do not have enough time to develop. It is assumed that the dry spot under a bubble thermally insulates the heater wall. The heat removal is provided by the vicinity of the wetting line (WL). An analytical calculation has become possible on the basis of the well-known exact solution to the problem of the temperature field near the wetting line. Generalization of this solution has led to two new problems. These are the problem of allowance for the difference of the dynamic wetting angle from the right angle and that of allowance for thermocapillary flows. A numerical comparison of the results of calculation of the dry area with the use of different methods of allowing for the “tightness” effect in the dynamics of bubble generation and growth has been made. The evolution of bubbles from their generation to growth limited by the heat supply has been investigated. It has been found that the transition stage in the development of bubbles from Rayleigh to thermal ones is of considerable importance in the processes of explosive boiling-up. The dynamics of change in the dry area and wetting line length prior to the stage of bubble merging into a vapor film has been calculated. A condition of passage of the heat flux through a maximum is found. The applicability of the idea of thermodynamic crisis to calculations of miniature devices is justified. The problem of constructing a model to calculate the interphase surface shape near the wetting line under a developed thermocapillary flow and considerable reactive forces of the vapor flow is formulated. The model is in good agreement with the results of experiments on pulsed superheating of liquids at a rate higher than 1 K/μs

Аннотация: The problem of current importance connected with a wide use of personal computers (PC) and a rapid growth of their performance is a decrease in the noise level created at the operation of cooling system fans. One of the possible ways of solving this problem may be the creation of passive or semi-passive systems on the base of loop heat pipes (LHPs) in which the heat sink is an external radiator cooled by natural and/or forced air convection. The paper presents the results of development and tests of several variants of such systems, which are capable of sustaining an operating temperature of 72–78 °C on the heat source thermal interface which dissipates 100 W at an ambient temperature of 22 °C. It is also shown that the use of additional means of active cooling in combination with LHPs allows to increase the value of dissipated heat up to 180 W and to decrease the system thermal resistance down to 0.29 °C/W

Аннотация: Absorption and reflection IR spectra of aqueous disperse systems that absorbed carbon oxide molecules are calculated. Systems of small and large clusters containing 2 ≤ n ≤ 10 and 11 ≤ n ≤ 20 water molecules, respectively, are studied. Each cluster can absorb one or two carbon oxide molecules. Both real and imaginary parts of dielectric permittivity of disperse systems depend on the number of adsorbed CO molecules to a greater extent than that of water molecules in clusters. The integral intensity of the absorption of IR radiation by cluster systems increases after the absorption of carbon oxide molecules by clusters. However, the ability to absorb and reflect IR radiation decreases with an increase in the concentration of absorbed CO molecules. Upon the growth of heteroclusters due to addition of water molecules, integral intensity of the absorption of thermal radiation can be enhanced or damped. In general, the clusterization and capture of CO molecules by clusters result in an anti-greenhouse effect
