Аннотация: In the above cited paper, Kashchiev extends the “thermodynamically consistent” description of nucleation work to phase formation processes in multicomponent systems. It is claimed that this approach is generally applicable widely independent on the kind of phase transformation considered. In contrast to this statement, it is shown in our Comment that Kashchiev’s approach is theoretically not well founded. It contains, in addition, a number of assumptions, which are not generally fulfilled. Because of this his method cannot give, in general, a satisfactory determination of the work of critical cluster formation in nucleation theory. An experimental example is given verifying our

Аннотация: Nucleation in binary solutions of cryogenic liquids has been investigated. Experiments have been made in range of nucleation rates from to at temperatures close to the critical line. The results of experiments are compared with the homogeneous nucleation theory, which takes into account the main factors limiting the nucleus growth. The effect of the curvature of the nucleus separating surface is allowed for in the nucleation work with the help of the Van-der-Waals-Cahn & Hilliard method. It is shown that the allowance for the curvature effect in the homogeneous nucleation theory improves its agreement with experiment.

Аннотация: A binary Van-der-Waals solution is considered. Within the framework of the Gibbs and Van-der-Waals capillary theories under the conditions of constancy of the temperature and the composition the size dependences of surface tension are calculated for critical nuclei of liquid and vapor. The phenomenon of “closure” of size dependences and the presence anomalously of high maximums on them are established.
