Аннотация: The stabilization of the structure of Si73 clusters that are surrounded by 60 hydrogen atoms and subjected to seventeenfold stepwise heating from 35 to 1560 K (in steps of ?90 K) is investigated using the molecular dynamics method. The analysis is performed for clusters of three types, i.e., a particle assembled from an icosahedron and a fullerene, a nanocrystal, and a particle with a random atomic packing. In all cases, an increase in the temperature in the course of heating is accompanied by evaporation of a Si atom from the clusters and an increase in the size of silicon particles. The temperature of detachment of Si atoms from clusters is lowest for the cluster with a random atomic packing and highest for the nanocrystal. The nanoassembled particle has the most stable number (close to four) of Si-Si bonds per atom over the entire temperature range 35 ? T ? 1560 K. For each type of Si73 clusters, the mean length of the Si-Si bond decreases with an increase in the temperature. According to the radial distribution functions, the Si73 clusters have different structures even at the temperature T = 1560 K. The distributions of bond angles reflect the presence of fourfold symmetry elements in the nanoassembled cluster and the nanocrystal. The relative depth of “penetration” of hydrogen atoms into the cluster is largest for the nanocrystal and smallest for the nanoassembled nanoparticle. The largest number of hydrogen atoms is “adsorbed” on the particle with a random atomic packing.

Аннотация: The physicochemical properties of 73-atom silicon nanoparticles that have a crystal structure, a random atomic packing, and a packing formed by inserting a 13-atom icosahedron into a 60-atom fullerene are investigated using the molecular dynamics method. Analysis of the behavior of the internal energy, the radial distribution function, the distribution of bond angles, and the specific heat at a constant pressure C p in the temperature range 10–1710 K indicates that a crystalline nanoparticle undergoes melting at a temperature of 710 K and that the structural transformations occurring in particles with an irregular atomic packing exhibit specific features. It is demonstrated that the temperature dependence of the self-diffusion coefficient follows a linear behavior. Local deviations from the linear behavior are most pronounced for the crystalline nanoparticle.

Аннотация: The physical properties of vitreous and amorphous silicon nanoparticles containing 300, 400, and 500 atoms are investigated by the molecular dynamics method. For a limited number of degrees of freedom, the internal energy of the amorphous phase is often less than the internal energy of the vitreous phase. The structure of the central region of silicon nanoparticles is studied in detail by constructing Voronoi polyhedra, which make it possible to determine the mean length of bonds and their number. The differences between the structures of nanoparticles in the amorphous and vitreous states are determined by the differences in the distribution of angles between Si-Si bonds and the distribution of bond lengths. Local arrangements of atoms in vitreous silicon nanoparticles are characterized by larger variations in the interatomic distances. The self-diffusion coefficients determined from mean-square atomic displacements are smaller for amorphous nanoparticles due to dominant diffusion over dangling Si-Si bonds.

Аннотация: Structural properties of vitreous and amorphous silicon nanoparticles containing 300, 400 and 500 atoms were investigated by the molecular dynamics method. The calculated nanoparticles radial distribution Functions and angular distributions of adjoining atoms were compared with the appropriate bulk Si-glass functions. The structure of the central part of silicon nanoparticles was investigatied in detail with the assistance of Voronoi polyhedra construction. The prevalence of five and six fold rings in Si-glasses nanoparticles and the domination of pentagons in amorphous silicon particles were revealed. The lengths of the Si-Si bonds and the number of bonds per atom were determined for nanoparticles under investigated conditions

Heating of water amorphous condensates at a rate of 12 K/min exhibits a glass transition temperature of 138 K and a crystallization temperature of 167 K. Concentration dependences of glass transition and crystallization temperatures for these mixture condensates have been obtained

Аннотация: Molecular dynamics methods have been employed to calculate the coefficient of shear viscosity ηs* of a Lennard-Jones fluid. Calculations have been performed in the range of reduced temperatures 0.4 ⩽ kBT/ɛ ⩽ 2.0 and densities 0.01 ≤ ρσ3 ≤ 1.2. Values of ηs* have been obtained for 217 states, 99 of which refer to metastable liquid and gas regions. The results of calculating ηs* for thermodynamically stable states are in satisfactory agreement with the data of earlier investigations. An equation has been obtained which describes the temperature and density dependence of the coefficient of shear viscosity in stable and metastable regions of the phase diagram up to the boundaries of spontaneous nucleation. The behavior of the coefficient of shear viscosity close to the spinodal of a superheated liquid and supersaturated vapor is discussed and the applicability of the Stokes-Einstein relation at high supercoolings of the liquid phase is examined.

Аннотация: Results of measured average expectancy time of n-pentane and n-hexane boiling-up to the boundary of attainable superheating are presented. Experiments have been carried out in glass capillaries with substantially decreasing value of the superheated liquid volume for the preset metastable state (p, T = const). Аннотация: Results of statistical measurement of n-pentane and n-hexane boiling-up expectancy time near the boundary of attainable superheating are presented. Experiments were carried out in glass capillaries with various volumes of superheated liquid. Several samples with the volume from 100 to 200 measurements of life time for preset metastable state have been obtained (p, T = const). Their histograms contain small empty initial section, maximum and long “tail” in the area of large times. Non-monotonous dependence of probability distribution density on time proves non-stationary character of the random process resulting in the production of supercritical embryo. Two simple approximations of non-stationary nucleation flow well describing experimental data have been considered. For exponential distribution, the probabilities of experimentally found peculiarities of boiling-up expectancy time distribution density have been evaluated; they prove incompatibility of this distribution with the experimental one

Аннотация: Layers of methane-saturated amorphous ice were obtained by deposition of molecular beams of water and gas on a substrate cooled with liquid nitrogen. Their heating is accompanied by glass transition (softening) and subsequent spontaneous crystallization. The avalanche-type initiation of crystallization centers captures the gas molecules and does not lead to their displacement by the motion of the crystallization front. Under crystallization of amorphous water-gas condensates in conditions of deep metastability the formation of gas hydrates takes place. Glass-transition and crystallization temperatures of the condensates were determined by changes in their dielectric properties under heating. The method of differential thermal analysis has been used to investigate the kinetics of crystallization of amorphous water layers. Properties that characterize the water crystallization kinetics have been determined on the basis of the obtained data on the dependence of the crystallization temperature on the heating rate

Аннотация: Experimental study of boiling-up of superheated n-pentane at atmospheric pressure in a glass capillary was carried out by high-speed video. From a visual comparison of video frames, we consider the character of vaporization in three temperature ranges corresponding to the following areas of the temperature dependence of the mean lifetime of metastable state: low temperature descending section, "plateau", and boundary of attainable superheat. Аннотация: High-speed video has been first used to show visually the existence of reproducible fluctuation boiling centers on a solid wall of an experimental cell for liquids superheated to the attainable superheat boundary. The main statistical characteristics of fluctuation centers have been calculated with allowance for censoring. The nonstationarity of a fluctuation process leading to the appearance of a nucleus capable of spontaneous growth has been shown. The change in the density of distribution of probabilities of boiling-up on an ensemble of centers with an increase in their number has been demonstrated. With an increase in the number of centers the probability of observation of large lifetimes of a liquid in the state of superheating decreases rapidly

Аннотация: Low-temperature crystallization of amorphous materials has been analyzed theoretically taking into account nonstationary nucleation. The kinetics of crystallization of amorphous water layers, formed by depositing molecular beams on a substrate cooled by liquid nitrogen, has been investigated by differential thermal analysis. The conditions of gas hydrate formation in low-temperature amorphous-ice layers saturated with carbon dioxide have been studied. The glass-transition and crystallization temperatures of the gas hydrates have been determined from the change in dielectric properties upon heating. Under the deep-metastability conditions, crystallization of water-gas layers leads to the formation of crystallohydrates. Gas molecules are captured by the avalanche-like nucleation of crystallization centers and, therefore, are not displaced by the moving crystal-melt interface. Gas-hydrate samples formed in nonequilibrium water-gas layers are convenient for studying their thermophysical properties

Аннотация: Layers of amorphous ice saturated with methane, ethane, propane and carbon dioxide were obtained by condensation of molecular beams of rarefied vapor and gas on a substrate cooled with liquid nitrogen. The amorphous state of such objects at low temperatures is stabilized by the high viscosity and the small value of the stationary nucleation rate of the crystal phase. Their heating in condition of high metastability is accompanied by spontaneous explosive crystallization, which leads to the formation of gas hydrates. Glass-transition and crystallization temperatures were determined by changes in their dielectric properties under heating. An increase in the gas content in layers of amorphous ice causes an increase in the crystallization temperature without any significant changes in the glass transition temperature. At atmospheric pressure in a liquid n-pentane medium the retention of gas hydrates was observed up to temperatures close to 273. K. Self-preservation ensured the retention of hydrates in a metastable state at temperatures exceeding considerably their equilibrium dissociation temperatures. Samples of gas hydrates obtained at a maximum gas flow rate during the deposition contained up to 15 mass % of methane, 12 mass % of ethane, 13 mass % of propane, and 23 mass % of carbon dioxide
