Аннотация: The electrical and electrochemical properties a dense In2O3 layer in contact with a single crystal YSZ electrolyte were studied. As a result of dc and ac investigations, it was found that under anodic polarization the rate of Faraday reaction at the surface of the In2O3 electrode is as low as in an ionically blocked electrode. Under cathodic polarization, however, the electrochemical activity of the electrode improves depending on the magnitude of the polarization voltage. Likewise, the electrode polarization resistance decreases after platinum or praseodymium oxide having been deposited on the surface of the In2O3 layer. The possible mechanism responsible for such a peculiar behaviour and the limiting step of the electrode reactions are discussed

Plasma surfacing in all gaseous atmospheres leads to the formation of a thin adhesive film of amorphous Al2O3. Thus obtained scale is protective in the temperature range 790-830 K as to chloride melt

Аннотация: Homogeneous mixtures of nanocrystalline powders of (NiO+Ni)/YSZ were obtained by combustion synthesis, and used to prepare Ni/YSZ cermets for symmetrical cermet/YSZ/cermet cells. These cells were prepared by co-pressing, co-firing at 1450 C, and reduction in 10 % H2-90 % N2 at 800 C. The resulting Ni/YSZ cermets are porous and adherent to the electrolyte, and its metallic and ceramic components are uniformly distributed. Impedance spectroscopy was used to characterise these symmetrical cells in atmospheres containing H2 and H2O. The impedance spectra show that the electrode reactions comprise at least two processes with different relaxation frequencies. The low frequency contribution of the polarisation resistance is very dependent on the partial pressures of H2 and H2O. The contribution at higher frequency is mainly dependent on temperature

Аннотация: Nanocrystalline and homogeneous powder mixtures of (Ni1-xCoxOy)+YSZ were obtained by combustion synthesis, and reduced in H2 at 800 C to obtain Ni1-xCox/YSZ cermets, and three layer symmetrical cells cermet/YSZ/cermet. These three layer cells were co-firing at 1450 C, and then reduced to obtain porous Ni1-xCox/YSZ cermet layers with good adhesion to the electrolyte. Results obtained under OCV show that partial substitution of Ni with Co lowers the polarisation resistance, especially the main contribution which is usually most dependent on the cermets microstructure. This trend is reverted for high fractions of Co, and the polarisation resistance obtained for Co/YSZ cermets is much higher than for Ni/YSZ. The low frequency contribution of the polarisation resistance was mainly dependent on the partial pressures of H2 and H2O, and is less dependent on the substitution of Ni with Co

Аннотация: The results of tests of the compatibility of nickel-based alloys and metal-fluoride melts are generalized for molten-salt reactors.??The structure and strength characteristics of the alloys Kh80MTYu,KhN80M-VI,and MONIKR in the initial state,after thermomechanical treatment and quenching,exposure for 1200 h to thermal convection loop filled with 58NaFn15LiFn27BeF with heating by 100 C,are investigated. A method for removing 2 impurities from the melt has been developed.??The results of corrosion tests performed on samples of nickel-based alloys in a setup with natural circulation with maximum melt temperature up to 700?C and redox potential of the system 1.25n1.33 V relative to a beryllium comparison electrode are presented. It is shown that deep removal of oxidizing impurities from the melt and maintaining a low redox potential give slow uniform corrosion (less than 5µm/yr) of Kh80MTYu and KhN80M-VI samples. After the tests were completed,none of the alloys studied exhibited any tendency toward intercrystallite absorption.

Аннотация: Gold electrodes with known contact geometries were studied using impedance spectroscopy. From these data it was possible to determine the specific polarisation conductivity per unit length of three-phase boundary (TPB). The values were found to be (3-22)x10-4 S·cm-1 dependent on the electrode history in pure oxygen at 977 °C and 2x10-6 S·cm-1 at 977 °C in “pure” hydrogen (PO2=10-20 atm at 1001 °C). The results are compared with previous data obtained for platinum electrodes.

Аннотация: Thermodynamic evaluations of corrosion resistance of solid electrolytes with respect to lithium at high temperatures are performed. Solid electrolytes on the basis of binary lithium nitrides and elements of groups II to VI are shown to be among the most corrosion resistant, in contact with lithium, lithium cation conductors. Data on conductance of such electrolytes as well as polarization curves for lithium-solid electrolyte and solid electrolyte-molten electrolyte interfaces are prosented. Polarization resistances of these interfaces in nitride electrolytes are found to be much lower than those in oxide electrolytes. Test results on a breadboard lithium storage battery with a solid electrolyte separator made of Li3AlN2 are reported

Аннотация: The present work aims at the investigation of the electrochemical properties of SrTi0.5Fe0.5O3−δ as a membrane material for hydrogen production via electrochemical reforming. The dependence of the electrical conductivity on the oxygen partial pressure, as well as the oxygen permeability in the range of 10−20 atm ≤ ≤ 10−14 atm is examined. The oxygen permeability is measured by an electrochemical method. The dependences of ion current as a function of the electromotive force (EMF) at various temperatures, oxygen partial pressures and the membrane surface conditions (rough and activated by PrOx) are studied. Finally, the values of hydrogen flux at different temperatures are calculated and a long term investigation during 600 h at = 10−19 atm, T = 1173 K is carried out. According to the present results, the permeation current increases with the increase of temperature, oxygen partial pressure gradient and activation by PrOx. The long term investigation shows that the electrical resistance of the SrTi0.5Fe0.5O3−δ ceramic membrane increases by 10%, possibly due to the formation of micro-domains into the material's volume and the decrease in the grain boundary conductivity, because of the segregation of dopant-rich layers near the grain boundaries.

Аннотация: The across-plane electrical conductivity of the proton-conducting SrZr0.95Y0.05O3 − δ thin films fabricated by chemical solution deposition on single-crystalline ZrO2 doped by 10 mol% of Y2O3 (YSZ) substrates was investigated using impedance spectroscopy. The average grain size of the films was found to increase considerably with thermal treatment. This change in grain size has a strong effect on the electrical behavior of films. Our results show that the electrochemical performance of the cell is strongly affected by the potential difference at the film/substrate interface. Coarse-grain film microstructure was proved to be preferable for the reduction of both the film resistance and interfacial barrier.

Аннотация: The 61%NiO + 39%Zr0.84Y0.16O1.92 (NiO-YSZ) and 56%NiO + 44%Zr0.83Sc0.16Ce0.01O1.92 (NiO-CeSSZ) composite powders have been prepared using two-steps and one-step combustion synthesis, respectively. The Ni-YSZ anode substrate with a low level of electrical resistance (less than 1 mOhm cm) and porosity of about 53% in the reduced state was fabricated. The functional layer of the anode with the high level of electrochemical activity was made of NiO-CeSSZ. The single anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell with the bi-layer Ni-cermet anode, Zr0.84Sc0.16O1.92 film electrolyte and the Pt + 3% Zr0.84Y0.16O1.92 cathode was fabricated. The power density and the U–I curves of the fuel cell at initial state and after impregnation of the cathode and anode by praseodymium and cerium oxides, respectively, have been measured at different temperatures. The maximum of power density of the initial fuel cell was 0.35 W cm−2 at conditions of wet hydrogen (air) supply to the anode (cathode) at 900 °C. After the electrodes were impregnated, the value of power density increased by seven times and was approximately 2.4 W cm−2 at 0.6 V. It was suggested that after the electrodes impregnation the polarization resistance of the fuel cell was determined by the gas diffusion in the supported anode.
