Аннотация: The Beattie ellipsometric method is used to investigate the index of refraction and the absorption coefficient of liquid aluminum and Al–3 at. % Ce alloy in the wavelength range from 0.44 to 2.3 mm at a temperature of 1173 K. The experimental results are used to calculate the dispersion dependences of light conductance, reflectivity, and functions of characteristic loss of electron energy. The results of measurements in the infrared (IR) spectrum are used to determine the concentration of conduction electrons, plasma frequency, relaxation frequency, and the limiting light conductance. It turns out that an addition of 3 at. % Ce to aluminum causes almost no change in the concentration of charge carriers, whereas the relaxation frequency increases, which leads to a decrease in the electrical conductivity of the liquid alloy

Аннотация: Beatte ellipsometry is used to study the refractive index and absorption coefficient of liquid gallium and of a gallium–30 at. % indium alloy for wavelengths of 0.4–2.0 mm at a temperature at 373 K. The dispersion rel curves of the photoconductivity and reflectivity are calculated from the experimental data. The measured data in the infrared are used to calculate the concentration of conduction electrons and the relaxation rate. It is found that when 30 at. % of indium is introduced into gallium, the concentration of charge carriers does not change, while the relaxation rate of the conduction electrons changes substantially, and this leads to a decrease in the electrical conductivity of the liquid alloy

Аннотация: The method of spectral ellipsometry is used in the spectral range of 0.52–2.7 eV for measuring the optical constants of liquid, amorphous, and polycrystalline alloys of Al–8 at.% Ce. The results are used to calculate the dispersion dependences of light conduction, of reflectivity, and of functions of characteristic loss of electron energy of these alloys. It is found that the band-to-band transitions have a significant effect on the optical properties of alloy in the amorphous and polycrystalline states. Two absorption bands are observed in the spectra of light conduction of these alloys, namely, in the amorphous alloy at photon energy of 1.72 eV and 0.69 eV, and in the polycrystalline alloy at 1.55 eV and 1.03 eV. The reflectance spectra of liquid and amorphous alloys almost coincide, which is due to the similarity of their atomic structures

Аннотация: Using the simplex-lattice experimental design method, we have constructed the liquidus surface in the quasiternary systems In2Bi-Cd-Pb and In2Bi-Pb-Sn. Using geometric models based on data in the limiting systems, we have calculated the enthalpies of mixing for the quasiternary melts. We discuss possible reasons for the change in the shapes of the liquidus surfaces and the appearance of extrema on the surfaces for the enthalpy of mixing

Аннотация: Local atomic environment of vacancies in nonstoichiometric titanium monoxide ranging in composition from TiO0.74 to TiO1.26 was studied by electron–positron annihilation. Analysis of the Doppler broadening spectra of the annihilation gamma line for titanium and liquid oxygen showed that positrons in titanium monoxide are trapped by titanium vacancies. Experiments revealed that the lifetime of positrons in ordered and disordered titanium monoxide TiOy increases with increasing oxygen content y and varies from 184 to 210 ps. Data on the valence electron density permitted the prediction that the lifetime of free positrons in stoichiometric titanium monoxide is about 140 ps and the lifetime of positrons localized in an oxygen vacancy is about 170 ps. The method used to analyze the gamma-line Doppler broadening spectra makes it possible to determine the type and number of atoms around a vacancy and to investigate order–disorder phase transformations in nonstoichiometric compounds
