Аннотация: For the first time the systematic study of the effect of synthesis conditions (concentrations of reactants, the presence or lack of a complexing agent and its type, the exposure time of deposited PbS particles in the matrix solution) on the size of lead sulfide nanoparticles, their phase composition and the presence of impurity phases is performed. PbS nanopowders are synthesized by deposition from aqueous solutions of lead acetate and sodium sulfide in the presence of EDTA-H2Na2 or sodium citrate. It is found that the phase composition of the deposit and the size of the nanoparticles depend on the initial concentrations of lead and sulfur ions, the presence and type of complexing agents, as well as on the quantitative ratio between the content of lead ions and complexing ions in the solution. The possibility of controllable hydrochemical deposition of PbS nanoparticles with preassigned size from 5 to 55 nm is shown.

Аннотация: Analysis of conditions of the lead hydroxide and sulfide formation in the Pb2+–H2O system was carried out with accounting for the formation of polynuclear hydroxo-complexes. This allows predicting a possibility of the lead hydroxide formation in the solution before the beginning of the synthesis of lead sulfide. The domains of the stable formation of Pb(OH)2 and PbS were calculated for the systems containing lead citrate complexes and hydroxo-complexes. The proposed calculation method can be used for the quantitative determination of the reaction mixture composition and development of the chemical deposition technology of lead chalcogenides in different morphological forms: nanocrystalline powders (hydrophobic sol), quantum dots, heterostructures of the core@shell type or films. The proposed calculation method is applicable to other chalcogenide systems containing metal ions forming mononuclear and polynuclear hydroxo-complexes

Аннотация: The distribution of sulfur atoms S and vacancies in planar square and hexagonal nonmetal sub lattices formed by the 4(b) and 8(c) sites in PbS nanocrystalline films with the cubic D03 structure and latent stoichiometry has been investigated. It has been demonstrated using the computer simulation that, in Sy 1 ⎯ y solid solutions with square and hexagonal lattices, the appearance of a correlation between the S atoms and vacancies in the first coordination shell leads to the appearance of correlations in the second and subsequent coordination shells. An increase in the radius of the coordination shell leads to a decrease in the magnitude of induced correlations, and the correlations completely decay in the ninth coordination shell. The functional dependence between the correlation in the first coordination shell and the induced correlations in the subse quent coordination shells has been established for different compositions of the Sy 1 – y solid solution. The results of the simulation can be used to refine the crystal structure of nanocrystalline films and particles of lead sulfide

Аннотация: The crystal structure of lead sulfide films prepared by the hydrochemical deposition has been studied by X-ray diffraction. The thickness of the films synthesized is ~100 nm, the size of coherent scattering regions is ~70 nm, and the value of microstrains is ~0.20%. It is established, for the first time, that the assynthesized PbS films and the same films annealed in the temperature range 293–423 K have a cubic crystal structure (space group Fm3m) different from the B1 type structure. In the crystal lattice of the structure revealed, sulfur atoms are located not only in the 4(b) positions but also in the 8(c) positions. The occupancies of the 4(b) and 8(c) positions by the S atoms are ~0.84 and 0.08, respectively

Аннотация: The effect of particle size on the thermal expansion of nanostructured lead sulfide films produced by hydrochemical deposition has been studied. The coherent scattering region size and thermal expansion coefficients of PbS nanofilm have been measured depending on the annealing temperature in the interval 293–473 K and on the duration of annealing at a constant temperature of 423 K. It is found that the thermal expansion coefficient α of nanostructured PbS film is nearly twice as large as that of bulk lead sulfide. It is shown that the observed large difference in the coefficients α is due to the small size of PbS particles in the film that leads to the change of the phonon spectrum boundaries and to the growth of anharmonicity of atomic vibrations. The additional contribution to the thermal expansion coefficient caused by the small particle size in PbS nanofilm is estimated theoretically.

Аннотация: A method has been developed to identify the sublattices of a crystal structure in which there are atomic vacancies. This method is based on determining the chemical environment of vacancies and is implemented using the method of the positron annihilation by measuring the momentum distribution of core electrons. To determine the characteristic momentum distribution of electrons, a special two-detector spectroscopy is used, which ensures measurements of Doppler broadening of the annihilation gamma ray line with a high (up to 106) signal-to-noise ratio. To test the method, vacancies in irradiated silicon carbide (6H SiC), sintered nonstoichiometric titanium carbides (TiCy) and titanium monoxides (TiOy), and chemically deposited lead and cadmium sulfides (PbS and CdS) have been identified. Vacancies in the carbon and silicon sublattices have been identified in silicon carbide after irradiation by low- and high-energy electrons, respectively. Vacancies in the nonmetal sublattice have been identified in TiCy. Vacancies in the metal sublattice have been identifiedin TiCy, as well as in PbS and CdS

Аннотация: The crystal structure of thin lead sulfide (PbS) films fabricated by hydrochemical deposition is studied by X ray diffraction analysis. It is established that both the synthesized PbS films and the same films annealed in the temperature interval of 293–423 K have a cubic (space group Fm m) crystal structure different from the B1 type structure. In this structure, sulfur (S) atoms are located not only in positions 4(b) (octahedral interstices of the face centered sublattice of lead (Pb) atoms) but also in positions 8(c), i.e., in tetrahedral interstices. The occupations of positions 4(b) and 8(c) by S atoms are ~0.84 and ~0.08, respectively. Long range order in the location of S atoms in positions of each type is absent, but correlations may be present. The new revealed structure of PbS films remains stable under a prolonged annealing in the temperature interval from 293 to 423 K

Аннотация: PbS particles down to 60 nm in size are prepared by chemical precipitation from aqueous solutions. An x-ray diffraction procedure is described for determining the particle size and atomic structure. The PbS particles precipitating in the solution bulk are shown to be monocrystalline. Reducing the particle size of PbS from 300 to 60 nm increases the rms atomic displacements (by 30%) and lattice strain (by 0.1%) in the particles. The lattice parameter of PbS is found for the first time to increase with decreasing particle size
